In a recent town hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin, CEO of Tesla Elon Musk clarified that the US government has no plans to use Dogecoin. This statement comes as a response to widespread speculation linking the popular crypto asset to the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) project he is currently leading.
According to Musk, there are no plans for the government to use Dogecoin or any other cryptocurrency, at least not that he knows of. The Department of Government Efficiency aims to improve operational efficiency by 15%, a goal that does not involve the use of cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin.
Initially, Musk had planned to name the initiative the “Government Efficiency Commission,” but decided against it after receiving feedback from the public. He explained that the name was too boring and opted for the more creative “Department of Government Efficiency” instead.
The project’s primary focus is on improving government efficiency, not promoting cryptocurrency adoption. Despite this, the naming coincidence has sparked confusion among some who might have assumed a connection between the two. It is worth noting that Musk has been an outspoken supporter of Dogecoin in the past, describing its inflationary model as “a feature, not a bug.”
The Department of Government Efficiency was established by President Trump to cut federal spending and streamline operations.
