Title: Paige Spiranac shares struggles with going viral in her early golf career
In a recent interview, professional golfer Paige Spiranac opened up about the challenges she faced when her social media presence suddenly skyrocketed. Speaking to People magazine, the 29-year-old athlete revealed that her life was turned upside down after her post-golf career went viral.
Spiranac explained that she initially gained popularity on social media with just a few hundred followers but found herself catapulted to fame with over 100,000 followers overnight. She shared how this unexpected surge in attention caught her off guard and led to an overwhelming amount of pressure.
“It was really tough,” she recalled. “I ended up going viral and this was back when people weren’t going viral all the time and I didn’t know how to handle it and my whole life got flipped upside down.”
The golfer also expressed the difficulties she faced while dealing with new fame, stating that she struggled to adapt to the constant barrage of attention and scrutiny.
“I show up and was doing hours of press, which I wasn’t prepared for,” Spiranac stated. “I had no training to do this. And I would say there were a couple of girls who were really supportive and who were nice, but the majority [of them], it was brutal.”
She further shared that many fellow golfers began avoiding her on the course due to rumors surrounding her online presence.
“I went on the range and girls would just scatter,” she said. “No one wanted to hit next to me.”
Spiranac’s honesty about her experiences serves as a reminder of the often-underrated pressures that come with going viral, particularly for women in sports.
As a professional golfer, Paige Spiranac has consistently been open about her personal struggles and challenges on and off the course.
