California Crypto Law Now Centers on Bitcoin Rights
The state of California has made a significant move in the world of cryptocurrency law. The update to Assembly Bill 1052 (AB 1052) now focuses entirely on ensuring and protecting Bitcoin rights, as well as crypto self-custody for residents.
Assemblymember Avelino Valencia, chair of the Banking and Finance Committee, led the change to rename the bill from “Money Transmission Act” to “Digital Assets”. This adjustment signifies a pivotal shift towards prioritizing the rights of Bitcoin holders.
