Amazon has launched its upgraded virtual assistant experience, Alexa+, by the end of March, as previously promised. However, it appears that many of the features showcased during a press event in late February are nowhere to be found.
According to reports from The Washington Post, Alexa+ is currently unable to perform certain “agent” AI tasks demonstrated at the event. These include ordering takeout on Grubhub or generating stories to entertain children. The assistant also lacks the capability to visually identify individuals and remind them of specific tasks, as well as brainstorm gift ideas.
Furthermore, some features are only being rolled out to a limited user base at this time, such as the ability to order an Uber and receive cooking recommendations. Additionally, Amazon’s web app for Alexa+, announced just last month, does not have a scheduled release window.
It appears that issues with the underlying AI infrastructure are to blame for the delayed rollout of these features. It is unclear when or if they will be available in the future.
Alexa+ has been plagued by problems from the start, and it seems that Amazon may still be working through these issues before releasing all the promised features.
