Migrant influencer-turned-squatter ringleader deported after advocating taking over Americans’ homes
A Venezuelan migrant who gained notoriety for his outspoken advocacy of squatting in Americans’ homes and boasting about the government handouts he received, has been deported from the United States.
Leonel Moreno, a former TikTok star with over 500,000 followers, was removed from the country after being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials last year. The deportation comes amid a proposed bill in Congress to combat illegal immigrants squatting in homes.
Moreno gained widespread attention for his controversial views on immigration and welfare, claiming that he and his family had received $350 a week in government handouts since entering the US illegally. He also flaunted his lavish lifestyle, boasting about earning up to $1,000 a week from his viral videos.
In one of his TikTok videos, Moreno was seen waving cash, singing, and examining a rifle at a store. The video sparked outrage among many Americans who felt he was taking advantage of the system.
“You’re hurt because I make more than you without much work while you work like slaves, understand?” Moreno said in another video. “That’s the difference between you and me. I’m always going to make lots of money without much work, and you’re always going to be exploited and miserable and insignificant.”
After his online profile exploded, ICE picked him up, but he spent months in custody under the Biden administration.
A federal judge ordered his removal in September, but the Venezuelan government refused to accept deportation flights under the Biden administration. He was originally released into the US in 2022 after crossing into the country illegally near Eagle Pass, Texas.
The proposed bill in Congress aims to make squatting a deportable offense for illegal immigrants, amid growing concerns over the impact of mass immigration on housing affordability and public services.
Moreno’s deportation is seen as a victory for those advocating for stricter immigration controls and an end to government handouts for illegal migrants.
