Tether, the largest stablecoin issuer by market capitalization, has made another significant Bitcoin purchase. The company acquired 8,888 new Bitcoins worth a staggering $735 million in the first quarter of 2025.
This recent addition brings Tether’s total holdings to 92,647 BTC, cementing its position as one of the top entities holding more Bitcoin than other major players. Other entities with larger or comparable holdings include investment firms like Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) and US-based ETF issuers such as BlackRock, Fidelity, and Grayscale.
It is worth noting that Tether’s previous purchase was made in December 2024 when it acquired 8,404 BTC, which brought its overall holdings to 83,759 BTC. The new addition demonstrates the company’s commitment to maintaining a strong presence in the cryptocurrency market.
As of today, Tether has unrealized profits of around $3.86 billion from its Bitcoin investments, highlighting the success of its strategy despite recent market fluctuations.
In other news, Tether has also expanded its investment portfolio beyond the cryptocurrency space by acquiring stakes in various traditional companies.
