OpenAI’s new image generator is now available to all users
In a significant development, OpenAI has announced that its new image generator is now accessible to all users. This feature was previously only available to paying customers of ChatGPT. Although it remains unclear how many images users on the free tier can generate, CEO Sam Altman had earlier mentioned a daily limit of three images.
The company’s image generation tool has been a huge success since its launch, with Altman stating that demand has been extremely high and the company’s GPUs were “melting” as a result. The tool has also raised concerns around copyright and training data used by OpenAI, given the similarity in style to Japanese animation firm Studio Ghibli.
The technology has already been used for various purposes, including converting pictures into the style of Japanese anime, raising concerns around intellectual property. Furthermore, some users have utilized it to generate fake receipts, such as restaurant bills.
