Truecaller now has over 450M monthly active users
Caller ID app Truecaller announced on Thursday that it has surpassed the 450 million mark in terms of its monthly active user base. The company claimed to have added a significant number of users, with a growth rate of 50 million new users in just 10 months and 15.5 million since the start of this year.
Truecaller’s CEO, Rishit Jhunjhunwala, attributed the massive growth primarily to the app’s continued expansion in markets outside of India, where the company has seen a rapid increase in adoption rates. He emphasized that while India remains a crucial market for Truecaller, the company is also witnessing significant traction in Latin America, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Malaysia, and the United States.
The company’s growth comes at an opportune time as it faces potential competition from local telecom providers in India, who are being pushed by the government to develop their own caller ID systems. This could potentially rival Truecaller’s offerings and hinder its progress in the region.
Despite this challenge, Truecaller remains optimistic about its prospects. The company reported a strong financial performance for Q4 2024, with net sales increasing by 23% and profit after tax rising by 29% compared to the same period last year. As a result, Truecaller’s stock has seen a significant surge of over 33% since the beginning of this year.
In recent updates, the company has focused on enhancing its offerings to better serve its user base. For instance, it released an updated version of its app that works seamlessly with iOS devices, addressing an earlier limitation imposed by Apple. Additionally, Truecaller has expanded its feature set with products such as call recording and transcription services, as well as a sophisticated AI-powered assistant for call screening.
