Voice AI platform Phonic gets backing from Lux
Phonic, a voice AI platform offering an end-to-end voice stack to increase synthetic voice reliability while decreasing latency, has secured a seed round of $4 million led by Lux Capital. The investment firm was impressed with the company’s novel approach to combining diffusion and proprietary models in the voice AI sector.
Co-founders Moin Nadeem and Nikhil Murthy, both MIT graduates, have been working on training models for some time now. Their unique method involves training their models in-house end-to-end, which provides several advantages over competitors. According to Phonic’s co-founder Murthy, this approach allows the company to deeply integrate reliability pieces into the models themselves. This integration enables seamless connections between disparate AI components.
Moreover, Phonic’s proprietary model-hosting and running architecture reportedly enables cost-efficient operations. The company claims that its robust models are trained on a wide range of recordings, including accented and muffled speech.
Phonic is currently working with a limited set of partners in the insurance and healthcare spaces, but plans to launch its product broadly in a few months. The company will also soon be allowing prospective clients to try out their tech from their website.
The Lux Capital partner who led the investment round, Grace Isford, praised Phonic’s co-founders, stating that they are “incredible technologists” and that their approach is novel.
