Illegal immigrants in Aurora, Colorado arrested for targeting homeowners in ‘sophisticated’ burglaries: police
A group of illegal immigrants has been arrested by the Aurora Police Department (APD) and the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office Organized Crime Unit for their involvement in a series of “sophisticated” burglaries that targeted homeowners in the area.
The investigation, which was carried out with the assistance of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), led to the arrest of multiple individuals who are believed to have entered the country illegally.
According to authorities, the suspects were part of a gang known as Tren de Aragua, which has been linked to similar crimes in other areas. The Aurora Police Department stated that the city has become a home base for this gang.
“We’ve seen an influx of criminal activity from this particular group, and it’s not just limited to burglaries,” said Aurora Police Chief Vanessa Shultz. “We’re working closely with federal agencies to identify and apprehend these individuals.”
The arrests were announced on Thursday by the APD, which stated that the investigation is ongoing.
“We are working diligently to identify any other suspects who may be involved in this criminal activity,” said the department in a statement.
The arrests come as Colorado has gained notoriety for its sanctuary policies, with state law prohibiting local and state law enforcement from working with federal authorities to remove illegal immigrants.
