Altcoin Season Brewing? Why ‘the Market Will Heat Up for Cryptos’ in Q2 2025
Despite the recent bearish sentiments and Bitcoin’s [BTC] continued dominance, some analysts predict that an altcoin season is brewing, with the market expected to heat up for cryptos in Q2 2025.
As of now, it appears that the sentiment has been bearish since October, but Joao Wedson, founder of Alphractal, believes that between April and May, the market will experience a resurgence. While Bitcoin’s dominance remains strong at over 62%, experts are advising investors to be patient and wait for optimal prices before entering the altcoin market.
In fact, experienced trader Merlijn shares similar sentiments, expecting an upcoming season reminiscent of 2021. He emphasizes that “the next three to six months will define your portfolio.”
However, a closer look at key industry indicators suggests otherwise. Capriole Investments’ Altcoin Speculation Index has plummeted by 53% since December 25, with ETH dropping 49% from $3,490. Moreover, CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index is at an all-time low of 16 out of 100, indicating a market that remains heavily dominated by Bitcoin.
Some experts propose that Bitcoin’s dominance might not serve as a reliable indicator for the arrival of an altcoin season anymore. In addition to this, Ash Crypto suggests that once Bitcoin’s dominance reaches 70%, it will mark its peak, historically signaling the start of an altcoin season in the following months.
Bitcoin Dominance (BTC.D) tracks Bitcoin’s market capitalization against the total crypto market cap. As it remains above 60% with no signs of weakening, this reinforces Ash Crypto’s view that Q2 and Q3 of 2025 could potentially usher in a major altcoin rally once Bitcoin’s dominance starts to decline.
