Pete Best, the original drummer for the legendary British rock band The Beatles, has announced his retirement from music.
Best, who was a key member of the band during its early years, played with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Pete Shotton (the band’s original bassist) as The Quarrymen from 1960 to 1962. He was dismissed by the group in August 1962, reportedly due to creative differences.
Throughout his career, Best has continued to work on various musical projects and has released several albums. Despite this, he has now decided to hang up his drumsticks and focus on other aspects of life.
“I’m proud of what I accomplished with the band,” Best said in a statement. “I’ve been fortunate enough to have had an incredible career, but I feel it’s time for me to take a step back and prioritize my own well-being.”
Best’s retirement comes at a time when the music industry is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Beatles’ formation.
