Gary Neville has launched a scathing attack on Manchester United’s current crop of players, stating that he can’t see any of the current squad being “good enough” to play for Ruben Amorim.
The former Red Devils defender was left fuming after watching his old team fail to beat Manchester City in a dire 0-0 draw at Old Trafford. He took to Twitter to express his frustration, stating that the performance was “robotic” and lacked “blood, thunder, risk and courage”.
Neville has now followed up his initial outburst by naming five Man United players who he believes are not good enough to play for Amorim’s style of football.
“Look at this midfield,” Neville tweeted. “I don’t see anyone in that group who can play for Ruben Amorim. Not one player. They’re not physical, they’re not aggressive, they’re not quick, and they’re not clever.”
“I’m not asking for world beaters, but I am asking for players who want to fight for the badge. Who will run their socks off and take one for the team. We don’t have that at Manchester United right now.”
Neville went on to name five players he believes are not good enough: “You can’t put these lads in a team that plays with Amorim’s intensity, aggression, and desire. It’s just not possible.
“I’m talking about Fred, McTominay, Fernandes, Rashford, and Martial. These players are not going to win you the battles on the pitch. They’re not good enough.”
The former defender believes that United need significant changes in the summer to bring in new signings who can match Amorim’s demands.
“I don’t want to be the guy saying ‘get rid of them all’, but we do need change. We need players who will give their life for the badge, and right now, I just don’t see that.”
Neville concluded by stating: “I’m not asking for perfection, but I am asking for a team with some passion, some drive, and some desire to win. Right now, Manchester United are just going through the motions.”
