Binance’s CZ Joins Pakistan Crypto Council After Key Government Meetings in Islamabad
April 7, 2025 – Changpeng Zhao, the founder of Binance, has officially taken on a strategic advisory role with the Pakistan Crypto Council. The development comes after high-level meetings in Islamabad where Zhao met with key government officials.
Reports indicate that Zhao’s appointment was finalized during talks with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb. The focus of these discussions centered on shaping digital asset policy and promoting blockchain adoption across Pakistan.
Government officials from the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), and the Ministries of Law and Information Technology also attended the session, aiming to discuss the country’s crypto direction and explore future frameworks.
This move is significant as it follows a similar agreement between Zhao and the government of Kyrgyzstan. In that instance, he signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Investment Agency under President Sadyr Zhaparov. The goal was to enhance the nation’s blockchain and cryptocurrency sectors by providing technical expertise in blockchain technologies.
A key aspect of this collaboration was the introduction of the A7A5 stablecoin, pegged to the Russian ruble. Issued by the Kyrgyz company Old Vector, A7A5 is designed to integrate blockchain technology into Kyrgyzstan’s financial system and attract investment in the digital asset market.
Binance’s CZ has maintained his global advisory role since stepping down as CEO of Binance. This includes advising governments worldwide on blockchain adoption and crypto frameworks. His engagement with Pakistan fits within this ongoing pattern, focusing on regulation and tech guidance.
Notably, there are no financial agreements or projects officially linked to Binance or its operations in Pakistan at present. The nature of Zhao’s advisor role remains strategic, targeting regulation and technical support.
It is part of a series of advisory roles Changpeng Zhao has taken since his exit from Binance.
