Web3 game Infected has accused Ethereum scaling layer Base of being unable to handle the massive influx of users during its recent launch, resulting in a failed debut. According to Infected, Base experienced transaction congestion, leading to skyrocketing gas fees that effectively locked out most players from participating in the game for the first 30 minutes.
In an official statement, Infected claimed that the scaling layer “couldn’t handle the volume of tx [transactions] coming in at once,” which led to a significant spike in gas fees. This, it explained, resulted in the loss of momentum and ultimately contributed to the failed launch.
However, Base has strongly refuted these allegations, stating that its network “hummed along, just as it should.” The team also pointed out that Infected’s frontend issues were a major contributor to the game’s poor performance, citing screenshots from the game’s communication with the Base team before the launch.
