The Last of Us will return for a third season
HBO has officially greenlit a third season of its hit adaptation of Naughty Dog’s games, just before the second season premiere. This news comes as no surprise, given the huge success of the first season and the fact that the show’s creators have long stated it would take at least two seasons to adapt all of The Last of Us Part 2.
The show’s creators, Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin, had previously expressed their intention to tell a complete story over multiple seasons. “We approached season two with the goal of creating something we could be proud of,” Mazin stated in a press release. “The end results have exceeded even our most ambitious goals, thanks to our continued collaboration with HBO and the impeccable work of our unparalleled cast and crew. We look forward to continuing the story of The Last of Us with season three!”
Unfortunately, no timeline has been given for when the third season will be released. However, it’s possible that there won’t be as long a gap between seasons this time around. The second season was delayed by the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023.
In related news, it’s worth noting that the second season of The Last of Us is set to premiere on HBO and Max this Sunday, April 13.
