Iconic Masters Landscape at Augusta National Altered Following Hurricane, Golfers Notice Visual Changes
The recent storm damage at the iconic Masters golf tournament in Augusta, Georgia has significantly altered the course’s landscape. The once lush and tree-lined grounds have been impacted by the loss of many trees due to hurricane-related destruction.
Jon Rahm, the 2023 Masters champion, shared his observations about the changes during an interview. “I don’t see there’s a chance where so many trees fell where that’s a possibility,” he said, referring to potential new routes on the tenth hole. While Rahm expressed skepticism about significant changes, he did acknowledge a “visual change” at the affected holes.
Rory McIlroy also commented on the missing trees, noting that it has made certain tee shots less intimidating and created more room for players on the par-four third hole. Despite this, both golfers emphasized that the overall essence of the course remains unchanged.
“We’ve seen some significant changes in our lives over the past few months,” Rahm said.
