A Boozy Battle: Maryland, Delaware in Spirited Debate to Make ‘Orange Crush’ Their Official Cocktail
In a move that has sparked controversy and laughter, the state of Delaware has declared the “Orange Crush” its official cocktail. This decision has not gone unnoticed by neighboring Maryland, which is now considering making the same drink their own.
The Orange Crush, consisting of vodka, triple sec, orange juice, and grenadine, was officially recognized as Delaware’s official cocktail in 2021 by former Governor John Carney. However, it seems that Maryland is eager to get in on the action.
“I’d like to remind you that Maryland stole this from us,” said a representative for Maryland State Senator Bryan W. Hartman during an interview with The Baltimore Banner earlier this year.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore (D) has been expected to sign the legislation, which would take effect on June 1. A spokesman stated that the governor “will surely be having an orange crush to celebrate.”
This back-and-forth between Delaware and Maryland highlights the strong rivalry between these two Mid-Atlantic states.
