Former President Joe Biden’s inner circle “convinced themselves” he was capable of running for re-election, according to author and journalist Chris Whipple.
Whipple made the statement during a discussion about his book, “Rising to Power,” which explores the inner workings of presidential administrations. He noted that Biden’s advisors were overprotective of him, particularly in the latter stages of his presidency.
“It really came down from Anita Dunn and the entire White House comms team,” Whipple said, referencing Dunn as a key figure in the administration’s communications strategy. “They were overprotective.”
Whipple emphasized that despite this overprotection, Biden was unable to effectively govern due to his deteriorating mental and physical health. He claimed that even before his departure from office, it was clear that Biden was not fit for re-election.
Despite the fact that Whipple believes Biden’s inner circle misled themselves about his capabilities, he acknowledged that the former president was able to perform certain tasks in a narrow sense.
The author highlighted an instance where Biden managed to complete prisoner swaps on July 21st. This demonstrated, according to Whipple, that Biden could still execute specific duties even if it wasn’t enough to secure him a re-election bid.
