Ripple, SEC File Joint Motion to Pause Appeals to Finalize Case Resolution
In a surprising turn of events, Ripple and the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have jointly filed a motion with the Court of Appeals seeking to pause their ongoing appeals. The move is aimed at finalizing the resolution of their legal dispute.
As reported, the SEC appealed against a ruling from Judge Analisa Torres in October 2024, challenging her decision that XRP sales to retail investors were not securities. Ripple subsequently cross-appealed the decision. However, both parties have now reached an agreement-in-principle and are seeking to halt the legal proceedings while awaiting Commission approval.
By pausing their appeals, the parties hope to conserve resources by temporarily halting the costly legal battle. This could also streamline court procedures and enable a more efficient settlement agreement.
