From an artistic standpoint, Macross Zero’s visual and audio quality are nothing short of breathtaking. The textured 3D models used to render the mecha (variable fighters) revolutionized the medium at the time, setting a new standard for the genre. Kuniaki Haishima’s score is equally noteworthy, as it stands out in comparison to typical Macross soundtracks.
Upon revisiting this series, I’m reminded of my own experience watching the first episode on the big screen in Shibuya, Tokyo.
