In a bizarre incident, hackers took control of crosswalk speakers in several downtown intersections in the Silicon Valley area, broadcasting humorous impersonations of tech moguls Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. The hacked messages, which have garnered over 100,000 likes on TikTok, feature synthesized voices mimicking the CEOs’ tone and mannerisms.
The hacked messages, which were removed by Saturday, appeared to be intended as a form of social commentary or satire. In the recordings, Zuckerberg’s impersonator pokes fun at Meta’s impact on society, saying “I just wanted to tell you how very proud I am of everything we’ve been building together. From undermining democracy to cooking our grandparents’ brains with AI slop to making the world less safe for trans people, nobody does it better than us.”
Meanwhile, Musk’s impersonator takes aim at his own reputation, stating, “I mean, let’s be real. It’s not like I had any moral convictions to begin with, right?” The hacker also had a message about Musk’s personal life, saying, “Can we be friends? Will you be my friend? I’ll give you a Cybertruck, I promise.”
