I Was So High on Gas and Air While Giving Birth That I Asked the Midwives to Rate How Much Fun They Were Having
As a new mother, I’m still reeling from the whirlwind experience of childbirth. But one moment stands out as particularly surreal – when, under the influence of gas and air, I turned to my midwives and asked them to rate how much fun they were having.
It was during the most intense moments of labor, when the contractions were coming thick and fast, that I reached for the trusty friend that is gas and air. The sweet relief it brought was a blessing, but it also had an unexpected side effect – my already foggy brain became even more hazy.
As I lay there, panting and sweating, I turned to the midwives and blurted out: “Hey, how much fun are you guys having right now?” It was as if my usual filter had been switched off, and I was left with a completely uncensored version of myself.
The midwives, bless them, played along beautifully. They chuckled and told me they were having a great time, despite the chaos and intensity of the situation. In that moment, we all became one big, happy family, united in our shared experience of helping bring this new life into the world.
Looking back, it’s hilarious to think about. But at the time, it was just another surreal moment in an already bizarre day. I’m grateful for those midwives who not only helped me through that magical (and occasionally nightmarish) journey but also kept a sense of humor and perspective during the whole ordeal.
As I continue on this wild ride called motherhood, I’ll cherish that brief moment of levity and shared absurdity with my medical team. Who knows – maybe someday I’ll even get to rate their fun level back!
