**The Ultimate Gaming Experience: Why Super Mario Odyssey is the Best Platformer Around**
As we continue our journey towards the release of the new Nintendo Switch 2 console, it’s impossible not to revisit some of the most iconic and innovative titles that have made the original Switch such a phenomenal success. In this installment of Road to Nintendo Switch 2, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on one of the most critically acclaimed games in recent memory: Super Mario Odyssey.
Released in 2017 for the original Switch, Super Mario Odyssey is more than just a platformer – it’s an experience that redefines the genre. The attention to detail and sheer joy that radiates from every pixel makes this game a masterclass in level design and world-building.
As I dove back into the world of Mario, I was struck by how seamlessly the Cappy hat mechanic integrates with the gameplay. This innovative system not only adds a fresh layer of strategy but also makes Mario feel like an unstoppable force as he transforms into various objects and enemies to solve puzzles and defeat foes.
But what truly sets Super Mario Odyssey apart is its sheer polish and attention to detail. From the lush, vibrant environments to the delightful characters and animations, every aspect of this game screams “Nintendo magic.” The absence of traditional power-ups, replaced by the Cappy hat’s transformative abilities, further adds to the sense of discovery and adventure that permeates the entire experience.
With over 15 hours of initial playtime, I found myself hooked on the world of Mario once again, eager to uncover every hidden secret and collectible. And while some minor nitpicks – such as a lack of direct control over the Odyssey spaceship and limited customization options – do detract from the overall package, these are small complaints in an otherwise flawless experience.
So what does the future hold for Super Mario Odyssey? Unfortunately, it’s unlikely we’ll see significant updates or DLC, but that doesn’t mean this game won’t continue to shine on the new Switch 2. In fact, a potential remaster in 4K would be nothing short of phenomenal. For now, however, I’m more than happy to revisit this masterpiece and experience the joy it brings once again.
Stay tuned for my next installment of Road to Nintendo Switch 2, where I’ll be discussing some unexpected surprises that will surely slash expectations (wink).
