Ljubljana has emerged as the world’s most crypto-friendly city, according to a recent report by global mobility platform Multipolitan. The city scored an impressive 173 out of 180 points in the Crypto Friendly Cities Index 2025, surpassing other major financial hubs like Zürich and Hong Kong.
The ranking is based on five specific criteria: taxation, regulatory environment, wealth and lifestyle, digital infrastructure, and crypto infrastructure. Ljubljana’s favorable tax regime, regulatory certainty, and concentrated crypto activity have earned it the top spot. The city boasts an impressive 155 legitimate retail sites accepting cryptocurrency and ranks third globally in the number of crypto ATMs.
Slovenia, Ljubljana’s country of origin, takes the lead when it comes to real-world crypto adoption. Its capital city has been actively embracing blockchain technology, which is reflected in its numerous ATM networks and supportive tax policies.
This achievement highlights the uneven global landscape in digital asset readiness. While some cities are rapidly progressing towards integrating cryptocurrencies into their daily lives, others are lagging behind. The report emphasizes that these rankings showcase which urban centers are taking the initiative to align with blockchain technology.
As a result of this ranking, Ljubljana has taken pole position, indicating its leadership in the adoption and integration of digital assets.
