Aurora Launches Commercial Self-Driving Truck Service in Texas
Autonomous vehicle technology startup Aurora Innovation has successfully launched a self-driving truck service in Texas, marking a significant milestone for the company. With this launch, Aurora becomes the first to deploy driverless, heavy-duty trucks for commercial use on public roads in the United States.
The launch comes after Aurora hit its deadline of April 2025, which was previously delayed from October 2024 due to regulatory issues. The company has started running freight between Dallas and Houston with its initial launch customers Hirschbach Motor Lines and Uber Freight. So far, Aurora claims it has completed 1,200 miles without a human driver.
The self-driving trucks will expand their services to El Paso and Phoenix by the end of this year, according to the company.
