North Korea’s Cryptocurrency Earnings Revealed with AI Technology
A recent operation by the US Department of Justice has successfully uncovered and seized cryptocurrency earnings made by North Korean hackers. According to reports, this massive heist was carried out using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
It is believed that the hackers used “laptop farms” located in Russia or Laos to carry out their illegal activities while deceiving their employers into thinking they were working remotely from Europe or Asia. The AI technology played a crucial role in tracing and identifying these fake remote workers, ultimately leading to the seizure of millions of dollars worth of cryptocurrency.
The US Department of Justice has launched an initiative called DPRK Revenue Generation (RevGen) aimed at mapping and shutting down North Korea’s financial networks. This recent operation is considered one of the first major successes for this new program.
“We will not let rule-breakers slide,” emphasized Jeanine Pirro, a prosecutor. “Anyone who supports the dictatorship by facilitating its weaponization will be held accountable.”
This revelation highlights the increasing importance of AI technology in combating cryptocurrency-related crimes and the need to stay vigilant against these types of cyber threats.
