Iran’s threats to strike U.S. military bases in the Middle East have significantly heightened following Israel’s retaliatory strikes on Tehran’s nuclear facilities and top officials, Fox News has learned.
According to a statement released by Iran’s Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, Tehran is prepared to target US installations in the region should Israel launch another attack. The threat comes as tensions escalate between the two nations, with Iranian forces reportedly firing missiles at Israeli positions.
In response to Israel’s strikes on Thursday night, which killed four military commanders, one senior Iranian official involved in nuclear talks with the United States, and two nuclear scientists, Iran has announced plans to hold the US “fully accountable” for its support of Jerusalem.
The Trump administration has denied involvement in the strike, stating that “Iran should not target the US.” Despite this, Pentagon officials have taken precautions by partially evacuating the US embassy in Iraq and authorizing military dependents to leave locations across the Middle East.
Tensions are running high as 40,000 American service members remain stationed throughout the region, placing them within striking distance of Iranian aggression. The presence of these troops has sparked concerns over potential retaliatory attacks on US bases.
Benham Ben Taleblu, an Iran expert with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, emphasizes that Tehran’s threat is not merely theoretical. “The regime has proven an ability to land blows at U.S. bases in the past,” he warns, pointing to January 2020 when Iranian forces launched short-range ballistic missiles at US installations in Iraq.
Ben Taleblu suggests that Iran is attempting to deter the US from taking a stronger stance against its nuclear program by making threats and trying to isolate Israel. “There is a political element to the regime continuously threatening America,” he states, adding that Tehran seeks to create a rift between Washington and Jerusalem by creating a sense of urgency.
As concerns over a potential escalation continue to grow, Fox News has learned that the Pentagon’s primary focus remains on ensuring the safety of its personnel stationed in the region.
