Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) has described the Israeli airstrikes in Iran as a “perfect opportunity” for the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow their authoritarian government.
According to Fox News Digital, McCaul made these comments during an interview on Friday while discussing the aftermath of Israel’s strikes on Iran. The Texas Republican had previously been part of a congressional delegation to Israel, where he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials.
McCaul emphasized that the current situation presents an unprecedented chance for the Iranian people to bring about change in their government, stating, “Now that their top leadership has been taken out, if there’s ever a time for the people to rise up against this theocracy, I would think the conditions are set.”
The congressman also expressed his skepticism regarding the likelihood of Iran returning to the negotiating table after the recent strikes. He noted that he was not optimistic about the prospects of successful negotiations and instead believes Iranian citizens have an opportunity to push for a new government “once and for all.”
