As grocery shortages persist, UNFI says it’s recovering from cyberattack
Food distribution giant United Natural Foods (UNFI) has announced significant progress in recovering from a recent cyberattack, as the issue continues to cause widespread disruptions across North America. The company, which supplies over 30,000 stores with fresh produce and other essential products, was hit by the attack on June 5.
Although UNFI has not provided a timeline for when its systems will be fully restored, it is reportedly working to restart electronic ordering processes, which are crucial for its customers to place orders. The company’s network outage has resulted in major shortages at many of its client stores, including Whole Foods Market.
According to reports from TechCrunch, several Whole Foods locations have been affected by the issue, with some even experiencing empty shelves due to the lack of supplies. The situation is not limited to Whole Foods; other grocery store chains and even stores run by the U.S. Defense Department are also struggling with delayed shipments or no shipments at all.
The Defense Commissary Agency has confirmed that it is working closely with UNFI to implement manual workarounds, but no timeline has been provided for when normal operations will resume.
