Midjourney Launches Its First AI Video Generation Model, V1
Today, Midjourney, a popular AI image generation startup, announced the launch of its much-anticipated AI video generation model, V1. This new feature allows users to upload an image or take one generated by another Midjourney model and produce four five-second videos based on it.
To access V1, subscribers will need to sign up for the $10-per-month Basic plan. The Pro ($60/month) and Mega ($120/month) plans will have unlimited video generation capabilities in the company’s slower “Relax” mode. Interestingly, Midjourney plans to reassess its pricing structure within the next month.
Unlike other AI video startups, which are focused on commercial applications, Midjourney is aiming to target creative individuals. The platform offers customization settings for users to control the model’s outputs. For instance, customers can select an automatic animation setting or manually describe a specific animation they want to add to their video. Moreover, users have the option to toggle camera and subject movement by selecting “low motion” or “high motion.”
The generated videos are currently five seconds long but can be extended up to 21 seconds through multiple extensions. While early demos show V1’s videos appearing somewhat surreal rather than hyperrealistic, the initial response has been overwhelmingly positive.
This announcement comes just a week after Midjourney was sued by Disney and Universal Studios for allegedly creating images featuring their copyrighted characters using its AI image models.
