Terry Luttrell, lead vocalist of the iconic rock band REO Speedwagon, has been injured in a car accident after falling asleep at the wheel. The incident occurred on Interstate 57 while he was driving to St. Louis for business purposes.
According to Luttrell’s statement to News-Gazette, he had stayed up until approximately 4:30 am the previous night following an REO Speedwagon concert at State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois. He had attended an afterparty and signed autographs for fans before returning home and then embarking on his journey to St. Louis.
Regrettably, Luttrell’s decision to drive while fatigued proved disastrous as he fell asleep behind the wheel, resulting in a car crash that has left him with injuries. The 78-year-old musician will require hospitalization for the next few days at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana to recover from his ordeal.
As a result of the accident, Luttrell suffered a cracked sternum due to the airbags deploying upon impact. Despite these physical setbacks, he remains optimistic about his speedy recovery and plans on making the best of his situation.
