Erykah Badu & The Alchemist Flip a Classic Mobb Deep B-Side for New Single ‘Next to You’: Listen
R&B legend Erykah Badu and underground hip-hop icon The Alchemist have joined forces on an unlikely collaboration, flipping a classic Mobb Deep b-side into their latest single “Next to You”.
The song, released at midnight after Badu’s performance at Forever in Rotation, Amazon Music’s Juneteenth celebration in her hometown of Dallas, is part of an upcoming album that marks Badu’s first independent release since 2015. The singer-songwriter recently announced that she will be releasing music independently through her own label, Control FREAQ Records, which was established back in 2005 and saw Jay Electronica as its inaugural signee.
The Alchemist, known for his work with Wu-Tang Clan and Ghostface Killah, has been reworking a classic Mobb Deep track from their 1999 album “Murda Muzik”.
