Elon Musk Suggests He’ll Help Primary Republicans Backing Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill”
Billionaire Elon Musk has escalated his criticism of the massive tax and domestic policy package working its way through the Senate, hinting that he may support primary challenges against Republican lawmakers who back the bill. In a post on X, Musk blasted the legislation, calling it a “disgusting abomination” and stating that any member of Congress who votes for the bill should “hang their head in shame.” He also warned that such lawmakers will “lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
Musk’s comments come as the Senate continues to debate the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, a sweeping package backed by President Trump. The legislation would make significant changes to the tax code, cut government spending, and impose stricter regulations on certain industries.
The Tesla CEO has been vocal in his opposition to the bill, citing concerns over its price tag and impact on various industries. In an earlier post, he called the bill’s spending levels “insane” and attacked provisions that would increase the debt ceiling by $5 trillion. He also criticized the phaseout of electric vehicle tax credits and excise taxes on certain renewable energy projects.
Musk has also expressed disapproval for the bill’s potential impact on his own business interests, stating that its Medicaid cuts could harm Tesla’s solar power and energy storage divisions.
It is unclear whether Musk will actually follow through on his threats to support primary challenges against Republican lawmakers who back the bill. However, his words have sparked significant controversy in Washington, where many Republicans are already facing tough re-election battles in 2025.
Musk’s criticism of the legislation has sparked a heated debate between him and President Trump, with the White House labeling any opposition to the bill as an “ultimate betrayal.”
