Iran’s Nobitex Exchange Recovers Services, a Week After $100 Million Hack
Nobitex, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in Iran, has announced the restoration of its services, just over a week after suffering a devastating cyberattack that led to the loss of approximately $100 million. The hacking incident, which was linked to the pro-Israel group Gonjeshke Darande, resulted in the destruction of $90 million worth of assets and the leakage of the exchange’s full source code.
Following the breach, Nobitex had shut down its services to facilitate an extensive security overhaul, with the aim of preventing any future attacks. In a recent statement, the exchange assured users that wallet access has been limited to verified accounts, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access their digital assets.
Nobitex emphasized that due to a system migration, old wallet addresses are no longer valid and urged users not to deposit funds into these outdated addresses, as it could lead to irretrievable losses. The exchange also confirmed the resumption of withdrawals for verified users, with further updates on other activities such as deposits and trading expected in the coming days.
This major cyberattack is significant due to its magnitude and political motivations.
