In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Noah Hawley, creator of the upcoming FX series Alien: Earth, revealed some intriguing details about the show’s potential connection to the iconic Alien franchise. While discussing the series’ storyline and themes, Hawley hinted at a possible crossover with the films.
“I don’t yet know, in terms of the series from beginning to end, how much time is going to pass or where we’re going to end up,” he said. “But I do know that at a certain point, the Weyland-Yutani Corporation is going to divert the Nostromo to that planet.”
For context, Alien: Earth takes place on Earth two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 masterpiece, Alien. The show follows several rival corporations competing over a crashed spaceship containing multiple alien creatures, including the xenomorph. A group of hybrids – robotic beings with human consciousness – will also play a significant role in the story.
While discussing the show’s narrative trajectory, Hawley mentioned that Weyland-Yutani will eventually divert the Nostromo to the planet where the events of Alien unfold. This raises some serious questions about how this could possibly connect to the original film. One possibility is that the events of Alien: Earth may have a direct impact on the timeline of the movies, potentially setting the stage for the crew’s arrival at LV-426.
In an effort to delve deeper into the mysteries surrounding Weyland-Yutani’s decision-making process, Hawley also mentioned that we’ll get to see what was happening on Earth as the horror unfolded in space. “We have the opportunity to maybe see what was happening on the other side of that phone call,” he said.
This development raises some exciting prospects for fans of the Alien franchise. The possibility of a crossover or even a direct influence from the TV series to the movies could lead to some fascinating storytelling opportunities. As the show’s premiere approaches on August 12, it will be intriguing to see how Hawley and his team choose to address this narrative direction.
