The United States Department of Justice has announced a new policy aimed at cracking down on criminal activity within the country. According to reports, the department will be directing all U.S. attorneys to seek to revoke the citizenship of any naturalized American who has committed a crime.
This move is part of an effort by the Trump administration to strengthen national security and prevent crimes perpetrated by individuals who have been granted citizenship through the naturalization process.
Assistant Attorney General Brett Shumate issued a memo outlining the department’s new stance, stating that denaturalization cases will be prioritized in all instances where there is evidence of criminal activity committed by those who have obtained U.S. citizenship through fraud or misrepresentation.
The Justice Department has confirmed that two days after issuing the memo, they were successful in securing the denaturalization of a convicted collector and distributor of child sexual abuse material.
