Nothing launches its most expensive flagship yet, Phone (3)
In a surprise move, Nothing has unveiled its newest flagship phone, dubbed the Phone (3), which marks a significant shift in the company’s strategy as it takes on industry giants Samsung and Apple with its unique design approach and advanced features. The latest addition to the Nothing family starts at an unprecedented $799 for the base model, making it the most expensive device yet from the brand.
The new flagship, Phone (3), follows the same transparent design philosophy that has defined Nothing’s earlier devices. However, this time around, the company is introducing a novel camera arrangement that sets itself apart from other smartphones on the market. The main camera boasts a 1.3-inch sensor, which is a whopping 20% larger than its predecessor, at an f/1.68 aperture; the periscope telephoto lens offers 3x optical zoom and 60x digital zoom with AI Super Res Zoom, while the ultra-wide lens provides a 114-degree field of view.
In addition to these impressive camera specs, Nothing has also upgraded its selfie camera from 32 megapixels to an impressive 50 megapixels. The Phone (3) will be available in two storage variants: 256GB and 512GB, with prices starting at $799 for the base model and going up to $899 for the higher-capacity version.
The company has also announced several AI-powered features that set it apart from its competitors. One such feature is Essential Space, an app that allows users to record meetings and access AI-driven transcriptions and summaries. However, this feature currently lacks a web interface to access these transcriptions and summaries. Another innovative addition is Essential Search, a search function similar to the iPhone’s Spotlight search, but infused with AI capabilities.
The device will run on Nothing OS 3.5 based on Android 15 out of the box and will be eligible for an update to Nothing OS 4.0, also based on Android 16, later this year. The company has promised five years of software updates and seven years of security patches, a significant departure from the standard one-year or two-year warranty offered by other brands.
In terms of specifications, the Phone (3) boasts a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution, protected by Gorilla Glass 7i. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor built on a 4-nanometer architecture.
Pre-orders for the Phone (3) will begin on July 4, and it will become widely available on July 15.
