Tennessee has passed a new law that aims to curb the growing issue of bullying among its youth. As per the new legislation, any teenager found guilty of bullying another child will have their driving privileges suspended for up to one year.
The bill was sponsored by Tennessee State Rep. Lowell Russell and has received bipartisan support. The law, which took effect on July 1st, makes it possible for courts to suspend driver’s licenses for teenagers who engage in bullying or cyberbullying activities.
According to the bill, the driving restrictions will be enforced by the court notifying the Tennessee Department of Safety, thus preventing a teenager found guilty of bullying from obtaining a new driver’s license.
