Substack brings new updates to livestreaming as it increases video push
Over the past year, Substack has significantly expanded its video tools for creators, shifting from a platform primarily dedicated to newsletters. Today, Substack announced new features aimed at assisting publishers in growing and promoting their livestreams.
One of the most notable updates is the ability to share clips from live videos on Notes, allowing creators to gauge the performance of these clips in real-time. This feature empowers publishers to determine which segments they should upload to other platforms, such as YouTube Shorts, to reach a broader audience. Furthermore, if creators link their YouTube accounts, the top two clips will automatically be uploaded to their Shorts channels.
At present, this functionality is accessible on iOS devices and is scheduled to roll out on Android next week. Substack has also leveraged AI capabilities to generate short highlight clips from recorded video content.
Moreover, when scheduling a livestream, Substack now creates promotional assets for sharing on Notes, YouTube, and other social channels. This feature streamlines the process for publishers, freeing up time they would have spent manually promoting their events.
Additionally, creators can now invite guests via email or SMS, which will be particularly useful for followers who do not hold a Substack account.
These updates follow the introduction of audio-only livestreams and a scrollable video feed on the platform. Substack had also rolled out live video capabilities to all publishers earlier this year.
