iOS 26 Can Freeze Your FaceTime Video If It Detects Nudity
Apple has unveiled a new feature in the latest iOS 26 developer beta that is causing quite a stir online. According to tech sleuths, this safety and privacy feature for FaceTime will blur your video feed if it detects you are in a state of undress during a call.
Once nudity is detected, FaceTime will display a message, stating “Audio and video are paused because you may be showing something sensitive. If you feel uncomfortable, you should end the call.” This feature can be enabled in FaceTime settings under “Sensitive Content Warning.”
While the intention behind this feature appears to be aimed at child accounts, it is currently possible for adults to enable it as well in the beta version. Apple’s support page clarifies that “Communication Safety” uses on-device machine learning to analyze photo and video attachments and determine if they contain nudity.
The analysis takes place directly on your device, without Apple having access to any of the detected photos or videos. This feature is part of Apple’s efforts to promote Communication Safety, ensuring a safer experience for all users, especially children.
It remains unclear whether this feature will be carried forward in future updates and become available to the general public, as beta features often undergo testing and feedback before being made widely available.
