Kesha has come forward to reveal the stark contrast between her public image and real-life persona. The singer-songwriter appeared on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, Reclaiming, where she shared her thoughts on how her 2009 hit single “Tik Tok” inadvertently put her in a box as a perpetual party girl.
While discussing her first album Animal (2010), Kesha emphasized that people misinterpreted her song and persona. “When you’re an artist and you’re a songwriter, you can write one song, and that defines you for so long,” she explained on the episode.
Kesha expressed her disappointment in being pigeonholed as someone who is always drinking and partying. The singer revealed that despite her party-themed debut single, people made assumptions about her personal life without knowing the truth. “It’s interesting to be put into a particular box was challenging. I felt like, ‘Oh, people aren’t seeing me’,” Kesha shared candidly.
In an unexpected twist, Kesha disclosed that she has never had anything to drink before a show, except for one instance in her 20s. She also confessed to being terrified of substances, a stark contrast to the song’s lyrics and public perception.
The revelation has sparked mixed reactions from fans, with some expressing understanding and admiration for Kesha’s honesty, while others took to social media to defend the song’s original message and intent, arguing that it was her choice to create such content.
