Kesha has come forward to share her thoughts on the impact of her 2009 hit single “Tik Tok” and its perceived image. In an appearance on Monica Lewinsky’s podcast Reclaiming, Kesha revealed that the song not only defined the early 2010s but also put her in a box as people assumed she was always drinking and partying.
The singer-songwriter recalled how she felt constrained by the public perception of her, stating, “When you’re an artist and you’re a songwriter, you can write one song, and that defines you for so long.” She expressed her frustration with being typecast by the very song that launched her career.
According to Kesha, this misconception was fueled by the media’s portrayal of her. The star shared her personal experiences, stating, “I don’t even remember where I was. And I was like, ‘I’m changing it tonight.’ Everyone was like, ‘You’re insane. You’re going to change the opening line of your biggest song?’ I’m like, ‘100% I am.'”
Kesha’s revelations come as she continues to navigate her second act in music.
