Elon Musk tells tech analyst Dan Ives to “Shut up”
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has fired back at Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, telling him to “Shut up” on his social media platform X. This comes after Ives made recommendations to Tesla’s board of directors regarding the company’s CEO and his political endeavors.
In a research note to investors, Ives suggested that the board curb Musk’s political activity and establish new pay package terms that would limit his voting control to 25% and put in place guardrails on how much time he spends at Tesla. The analyst argued that Musk’s focus should be solely on leading the company, as any diversion of attention could harm shareholders.
Musk responded swiftly, posting “Shut up, Dan” hours after Ives’ comments were made public. This outburst comes amidst a tumultuous period for the electric car manufacturer, with shares down 26% since the start of the year and sales falling over 13% in recent months compared to the same time last year.
The company has faced backlash due to Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration, where he served as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for several months before announcing his departure in May. The Tesla brand took a significant hit during that period, with vehicles and dealerships becoming a target for vandalism.
