Here’s What Every Woman Should Know About Their Risk Of Breast Cancer
As breast cancer rates rise across the United States, it is essential for women to understand their risk and take proactive steps in prevention. Unfortunately, current risk assessment tools often fall short in accurately measuring individual risks.
The majority of breast cancers are sporadic, meaning they do not result from a known inherited genetic mutation or strong family history. Instead, they can be caused by environmental exposures, which is concerning considering the lack of identifiable causes in most cases. The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 370,000 people will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone.
Prevention and early detection are crucial to improving survival rates and reducing mortality. However, these efforts rely heavily on understanding personal risk. Unfortunately, many women have never discussed their risk with their doctors, while others fill out questionnaires or surveys that can be inaccurate or incomplete. To address these gaps in care, a new FDA-authorized platform called Clairity Breast has been developed.
Unlike traditional risk assessment models, Clairity Breast uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze standard mammograms and generate a five-year breast cancer risk score. This innovative approach addresses the lack of diverse representation in older models by incorporating images from various patient populations.
