Legendary singer-songwriter Robert Earl Keen has been deeply affected by the devastating impact of the recent flooding in his hometown of Kerrville, TX. The tragedy, which occurred on July 4, resulted in the deaths of 27 campers and counselors at Camp Mystic, where his two daughters, Clara and Chloe, were once attendees. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Keen reflected on the disaster’s profound influence, expressing gratitude for the support from fans worldwide.
The veteran musician has a deep connection to Kerrville, having played the town’s Fourth on the River festival multiple times in the past. However, this year’s event was cut short due to the sudden and catastrophic floodwaters that inundated the area, destroying equipment and disrupting essential services. Keen’s children attended Camp Mystic for several years, with Clara spending eight years at the camp before graduating.
Keen revealed plans to organize a benefit show in response to the tragedy, stating that he believes it is crucial to “do as much as you can, for as long as you can” in the face of such calamity. He also donated 100% of his merchandise sales during his current tour to flood relief efforts.
In addition to Keen’s efforts, other notable artists have expressed their support and encouraged donations to aid those affected by the disaster. These include Billie Eilish, Shakira, Lana Del Rey, Miranda Lambert, Maren Morris, and Hilary Duff.
