Belkin Ends Support for Most Wemo Devices and Its Wemo App
In a recent announcement, Belkin revealed that it will discontinue technical support for the majority of its Wemo products and their corresponding app as of January 31, 2026. The decision affects a wide range of smart home devices, including smart plugs, light switches, smart bulbs, baby monitors, kitchen appliances, heaters, air purifiers, motion sensors, and more.
In an email to customers, the company explained its decision, stating that it has decided to focus on other areas of its business. The move allows Belkin to redirect resources away from supporting older devices and instead invest in newer products or services.
“We understand this change may disrupt your routines, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience,” the email reads. “However, as technology evolves, we must focus our resources on different parts of the Belkin business.”
The affected products will no longer receive firmware updates, troubleshooting assistance, or technical support after the cutoff date. The Wemo app will also cease to function, rendering devices that rely on cloud connectivity unusable. This includes features such as remote access and voice integrations.
On a positive note, Belkin has confirmed that any products configured for use with Apple’s HomeKit will continue to work despite the discontinuation of the Wemo app. Additionally, the company has stated that eligible devices still under warranty by January 31, 2026, may be eligible for a partial refund.
While this move might not come as a surprise given the growing trend of companies abandoning older smart home devices in favor of newer releases, it’s still unsettling to see another major brand abandon its products and leave users high and dry.
