All Gaming Laptops Should Copy the HP Omen Max 16’s All-Too Obvious Feature
The gaming laptop market has become increasingly stale. Every big black rectangle can start to look the same, making online shopping for a new mobile gaming rig feel like trying to navigate a hall of mirrors. The HP Omen Max 16 would be just another unremarkable offering if it weren’t for its game-changing “Instant Pair” feature that allows seamless connectivity with specific HyperX peripherals without the need for cumbersome wireless USB dongles.
In an era where players are accustomed to wired connections or, at best, a 2.4GHz USB dongle, this innovative feature is a breath of fresh air in the stale gaming laptop market. This Instant Pair technology eliminates the frustration and inconvenience of dealing with multiple dongles, making it easier for gamers to jump between different rooms and still maintain low latency.
It’s unfortunate that this feature is limited to only the HyperX Pulsefire Saga Pro mouse and the HyperX Cloud III S headset, which come with their own dongles. The company should consider expanding its Instant Pair capabilities to a wider range of peripherals, making it a more comprehensive gaming ecosystem.
The “Instant Pair” technology isn’t without its issues. I encountered numerous software bugs during my testing period, including trouble pairing the mouse and headset multiple times before they finally worked. However, once these devices were connected, it was difficult to go back to using the traditional dongle-based setup.
HP’s latest Omen Max 16 also features a 2.4GHz receiver built into its shell, offering seamless connectivity with HyperX peripherals without the need for cumbersome wireless USB dongles.
