Google adds featured notebooks on selected topics to NotebookLM
In a bid to further demonstrate the capabilities of its AI-powered software, Google has introduced “featured notebooks” on NotebookLM, which aim to provide high-quality resources on various topics. These notebooks are designed to be interactive and offer users multiple ways to engage with the content, including asking questions about topics in a chat interface or viewing an AI-generated summary.
According to Google, these featured notebooks were created in collaboration with respected authors, researchers, publications, and nonprofits worldwide. They will have their own dedicated tab on the NotebookLM homepage, allowing users to easily access them.
The first batch of featured notebooks has already been released, covering topics such as longevity advice, 2025 predictions, and personalized life advice. These notebooks are a representation of the vast amount of material that needs to be uploaded to NotebookLM in order for it to function effectively.
It’s worth noting that Google introduced NotebookLM in 2023 as an experiment to build an AI tool that relies on sources provided by users, rather than data scraped from the internet. The idea behind this approach is that conversations about topics within NotebookLM would be less prone to hallucinations compared to what an AI-generated summary might produce in a search engine.
The company has been rapidly expanding NotebookLM since introducing Audio Overviews in September 2024, which enabled users to create AI-generated podcasts based on uploaded material. Now, with the launch of featured notebooks, Google is attempting to model how its AI-powered tool can be useful.
Google stresses that featured notebooks are available for desktop users and will continue to add more content in the future.
