xAI starts offering Grok to US government agencies
Just days after apologizing for Grok’s recent hard turn toward antisemitism, xAI has announced a suite of AI products specifically designed for government use. The new offering, Grok for Government, combines the company’s latest commercial products with special considerations given to the needs of federal, state and local agencies.
According to an official statement, xAI will design custom models for specific national security and research customers, as well as develop specialized AI applications for use in healthcare, fundamental science and national defense. The company will also offer models that can safely be used in classified and restricted environments.
The announcement comes despite President Trump’s recent threat to cut Elon Musk’s companies off from government subsidies over their public feud. However, xAI claims it already has a contract with the US Department of Defense, which will allow its products to be purchased through the General Services Administration schedule.
This means that every federal government department, agency or office can potentially access Grok’s models. The move is seen as a significant expansion into the public sector for xAI, and comes after OpenAI launched ChatGPT Gov at the start of the year.
